IMPROVING EVERY DAY

As outlined in this publication, Davenport did an outstanding job with our Illinois Standards Achievement Tests.  We met and/or succeeded in every area of Adequate Yearly Progress.  This has been the case for many years.  So, do we stop there and be content with status quo?  Of course not!  The staff at Davenport Elementary look for ways to improve instruction and other related skills on a daily basis.  The following are goals established for the 2006-2007 school year:

 TEACHING AND LEARNING:

·            Instituted DIBELS progress monitoring for

accurate placing of students in reading

·            Restructure the utilization of the Reading Room

      for first grade students

·            Increase the usage of commercialized ISAT

      review materials

·             Investigate the possibility of leveling the reading

groups in second grade for instruction

STUDENT PROGRESS AND ACHIEVEMENT:

·            Smaller class size in kindergarten

·            Usage of running records to chart progress for

       leveled readers

·            To utilize standard test-prep words poster to

      familiarize students with vocabulary words

·             Research the usage of the Response to Intervention

      Model

THE SCHOOL AS A LEARNING COMMUNITY:

·            Have the kindergarten character education

program last an entire school year

·            Mentor program for teachers on goal setting

·            Review new character education program

Hats off to our wonderful volunteers that make our school a fantastic place to educate children.  Under the leadership of Diane Gregoire, our PTO organizes two fundraisers a year.  Through these fundraisers, the PTO generously gives back to the school.  This year, they purchased a new sign that will be placed in our main entrance, they are sending two staff members to a Dyslexia training, they provide supplies for our Picture Person program, they organize the monthly snack day, to name a few.

Hats off to the parents that come into the classroom to assist the teachers and students with reading, classroom projects, and classroom parties.

Finally, Hats off to the taxpayers!  Our school is great because we have community members that support our school!  Thank you!

Hats Off!
